TRANSFIXED MOTION | TRANSITORY STILL
Sheffield Institute of Art and Design Gallery | 10am-4pm Daily
"Photography has all but given up the decisive moment in order to explore what a moment is; video art has all but given up movement, the better to think what movement is... But must the speedy always be sacrificed in all this? Need slowness be the only way? At this key point in the histories of art and media, I think it is a question worth posing. And a pose worth questioning."
- David Campany, Posing, Acting, Photography
"The two notions of stillness and movement, and how these can powerfully conflict, contradict or compliment each other, are the premise of Transfixed Motion | Transitory Still. This exhibition, curated by Esther Johnson and David Williams, brings together a diverse group of 22 UK-based artists whose work reflects the above quote and who incorporate moving image, photography and/or sound into their practice."

Shelly Love. Curated by
Irina Stark.
Chalk Farm Road, London NW1 8EH | 11am-6pm Daily
"From Light to Dust explores the myriad meanings and contradictions of the Circus - its popular appeal along with its sometimes seedy reputation; its mixture of nostalgic innocence along with macabre defiance of death; the glitter and magnificence of the Big Top along with the hand-to-mouth transience of circus life."

SHUNT
"Rosalind Davis shows a series of paintings and installations highlighting community spaces that are a visual echo of human experience. Michaela Nettell projects slow, shifting video sequences onto glass, imagining ways cities are transformed by their inhabitants' dreams and desires. Shelly Love screens her film The Forgotten Circus, performed by Circus Space Performers and Gerard Bell, featuring music by The Irrepressibles."
